Meal delivery help needed
Meals on Wheels of Skagit County is in urgent need of kitchen and dining room volunteers between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. one day a week at the Mount Vernon Senior Center. Call 360-757-2545 or e-mail .
Citizens can help patrol
The Anacortes Auxiliary Patrol needs area residents to join its downtown and west-end patrol programs. Volunteers look for suspicious behavior and vehicles, act as a liaison between the public and police department, issue warnings for illegally parked vehicles, and check on vacation homes and businesses, and perform other nonhazardous duties. The Mt. Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross seeks individuals ages 14 to 24 who want to learn about and/or participate in the First Aid Service Team. Training is provided. Inquire at or 360-424-5291.

The American Cancer Society needs volunteers on Mondays and Wednesdays in Cancer Resource Centers at Island Hospital in Anacortes and at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. Hours are flexible. 800-729-5588.

• Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland can use volunteers to work in its new office in downtown Mount Vernon. Light computer work may be involved.
•The La Conner Chamber of Commerce is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can work two to four-hour shifts once a week or as a substitute. The Chamber is open Monday through Saturday.
• The Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley Senior Centers are looking for kitchen helpers, Meals on Wheels drivers and kitchen work substitutes.
• Lucille Umbarger School, Burlington, needs reading and math tutors for students in grades 4-8 at 3:30 p.m. for one-hour sessions.
