The city of Sedro-Woolley Public Works Department will conduct roadway repairs throughout the city on June 16 through 18.
Businesses and residences impacted by the repairs will be notified by door hangers 48 hours prior to scheduled work. The purpose of the repairs is to prolong pavement life, city officials said.
Two methods of repairs will be utilized: crack sealing and slurry sealing.
Crack sealing requires closing roadways for two hours. The sealant consists of an elastic rubberized asphalt emulsion thatβs injected into the joints and cracks of the asphalt that expand and contract with varying temperatures on the roadway.
This method of repairs will be conducted on Ferry Street; Metcalf Street from Nelson Street to Northern Avenue; Woodworth Street from Eastern Street to Murdock Street; and Murdock Street from State Street to Ferry Street.
Unsealed cracks can allow water to enter and deteriorate the subgrade and eventually the surface, city officials said. It can then lead to cracks, potholes and eventually pavement failure.
Another project form of roadway repairs will be conducted on Ferry Street from Highway 20 east to Eastern Street and on Marie Place and Alderwood Lane east of Highway 9.
These roads will receive slurry sealing, a cost-effective maintenance procedure that is meant to extend the life of mature asphalt pavements that are not damaged, officials said. The process requires closing streets for four hours.
The sealant is a protective pavement coating that consists of specially graded sand, asphalt emulsion, water and other additives. The sealant should extend the life of the pavement by preventing elements from damaging the pavement, while at the same time filling small irregularities in the pavement.
Blackline, Inc. of Vancouver, Wash., will conduct the repairs and will be rescheduled if it rains.
