Public input sought on park weed issues
North Cascades National Park Service Complex seeks public input on a proposal to implement a weed management program that controls invasive, non-native plants, restores impacted areas, and detects and prevents new infestations. The purpose of the proposal is to protect the resources and values of the North Cascades ecosystem from the adverse impacts of invasive, nonnative plants.

The 25th annual Tacoma Home & Garden Show is slated for Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 at the Tacoma Dome. The show will be open most days at 10 or 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. A highlight of the show, the 40-foot-high “Eiffel Tower” and “Parisian scene” sand sculpture, is scheduled for completion by mid-Saturday, Feb. 2. Espalier workshop planned at nursery

- “Espalier Techniques for Fruit Trees” (advanced pruning) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26: Ani Gurnee will share tricks of the trade to achieve espalier fruit tree forms. $5.
- “Hearts and Flowers” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 2: Joanne Romann will hold a two-part floral and cooking demonstration to make a terra cotta floral container and Coeur a la Créme Valentine dessert. $35.

Greenhouse veggie workshops planned
The “Keeping It Local: Organic Greenhouse Vegetable Production” workshop series will be held at the PUD auditorium, 120 E. Fremont. Learn how to start and manage a sustainable organic vegetable greenhouse operation.
Workshops will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Thursday, Feb. 7: Production l: Growing tomatoes and peppers.
- Tuesday, Feb 19: Production II: Growing cucurbits and other vegetable varieties.

Annual Flower and Garden show set
The 19th annual Northwest Flower and Garden Show will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20-24, at the Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Place. Six acres of gardens, free seminars, 350 exhibits, floral competitions and flower displays are planned. Chartered buses to the Northwest Flower and Garden show will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 20-22, at Christianson’s Nursery. Tickets: $46, will include bus ride and show; show only is $16 early bird or $19 day of the show.

The following garden groups welcome visitors and prospective members:
- The new Designing Women club will meet once a month, beginning Feb. 9, in the Mount Vernon area to learn through study and hands-on work about the many forms of design using plants and flowers, to have fun being creative, and to participating in flower shows and other events.
