In the continuing plan to replace downtown Anacortes sidewalks, the city awarded the 2008 project to Schwetz Construction.
The work this year will be done along both sides of the Commercial Avenue block between Third and Fourth streets.
Businesses there include the Rockfish Grill, Reisner Distributor and Watertown Pub.
The $155,000 project involves installing curbs, gutters, street lights, storm drains, sidewalks and stamped bricks. New trees, tree wells and a tree feeding system will go in once the old trees are removed.
The work is expected to begin the first week of June and be substantially completed the first week of July.
Schwetz did the central business district sidewalk replacement project for the city in 2002, 2004 and 2005 as a concrete subcontractor and in 2006 and 2007 as the general contractor.
The sidewalk replacement project started in 2001. Funding comes from the sidewalk project and storm inflow and infiltration funds.
