A nice day out in Coe with my 8yo daughter and her best buddy.  We had intended to do a smaller hike but the girls saw Frog Lake on the map and insisted on going to look for frogs so we changed plans.

This is the first time in about 6 visits that the store has been open for me, I’m usually here at the crack of dawn and don’t get out until sunset so I always miss it.  I took the opportunity to replace my map as the old one is in multiple chunks, also picked up a great wildflower guide by Barry Breckling.  I highly recommend this if you’re into finding all the flowers that Coe has to offer.  We also picked up some magnifying glasses and bug boxes for the girls.

We had a great time ID’ing flowers and catching bugs to be looked at in their magnifying bug boxes we picked up at the store.

We took the monument trail up and over to Hobbs.  Made the nasty descent down hobbs and had no issues until we got to the flat by the creek.  Alex, who is already sporting a badly broken arm, fell on a sharp rock and ended up with a three inch slice that was borderline for stitches.  I cleaned it and butterflied it and it looks ok now back at home.

After that little incident we decided to still head up to Frog Lake where we met a friendly little ground squirrel who would come right up on to your shoes.  The girls found my geocache I have at the lake and then we went around to the other side to find frogs, no frogs but there were thousands of tadpoles so they enjoyed that just as much.

We hiked back out on the Flat Frog trail which is one of the best in Coe.  An awesome gradual grade takes you back up to the Corral trail and short hike back to HQ.

A really fantastic day out with the girls.  They were a bit tired at the end but they had a great time.

Parking is basically a pull-out. So be prepared. The trail begins immediately. Also worth noting, there is a hill of mud that has to be climbed on this hike. It’s slick, and the possibility of ending up covered in mud is great.
